Optical zoom will be key in the future of Samsung phones
We have less and less doubts that an interesting war is coming in the world of mobile photography. For three years, smartphones have reached impressive levels of quality, although they seem far from stagnating. The big manufacturers are working on improving the zoom of the cameras and it seems that Samsung is going to put all the meat on the spit. Now and according to the latest information, Samsung could be thinking about acquiring a company, whose patents and advances on optical zoom technology for mobile phones, could define the future of the industry.
The new battle for the optical zoom will take place very soon and already has several protagonists. Huawei and Oppo are working on a 10X optical zoom and now we have to turn our heads towards Samsung , which does not seem willing to stand idly by. Now and apparently, Samsung would be in talks to acquire a specialized Israeli company that would be his entry passport to high-power zoom, a technology that Samsung has taken longer to flirt with compared to some of its more direct rivals.

As reported by GSMarena, the talks between both companies would be very advanced and Samsung would be willing to acquire "Corephotonics" for about 160 million dollars. The great attraction of the company is that it has more than 150 patents related to optical zoom, already applicable to smart phone technology. This company had a lot to do with the 5X zoom that Oppo showed in the MWC of 2017. Apparently, the company would already have optical zoom developments for mobiles capable of reaching the figure of 25X. If the news is confirmed and the acquisition announced, Samsung would be betting very strongly on the photographic capabilities of their future smartphones.
